Kurt Gessler is the director of editorial operations at Tribune Publishing, where he focuses on digital strategy at the intersection of audience, product and editorial. For this work, Gessler received the 2017 Chicago Tribune Jones-Beck Johnrae Earl Award for Editing and the 2015 Chicago Tribune Jones-Beck Award for Digital Audience Growth. He also was given the Tribune Publishing Team Award in 2014, 2015 and 2016. Gessler also is an adjunct instructor at the University of Nebraska and has served as an adjunct lecturer at Northwestern University. For his work on social media metrics and audience engagement, he was named to MediaShift’s 2017 MetricShift20 list of leaders in media metrics. Before coming to Tribune Publishing in 2010, Gessler was Managing Editor/Online for the Daily Herald in suburban Chicago.
